Easing Our Professional Workload - Integrating AI

 As the educational landscape evolves, AI tools such as ChatGPT, Diffit, and Magic School are playing a pivotal role in transforming teaching methodologies. These innovative tools aid in creating a more dynamic learning environment and significantly reduce the workload of educators. I would never put student-specific information into an AI app because it violates professional ethics and laws in some states. However, it is a wonderful resource to ease the workload of educators. Let's delve into how AI solutions are enhancing teaching efficiency.

ChatGPT serves as a versatile assistant in curriculum development and lesson planning, offering teachers a range of support from generating lesson plan ideas to suggesting diverse teaching resources. It's instrumental in creating varied educational content like worksheets, quizzes, and study guides tailored to different learning styles. Additionally, ChatGPT can be an invaluable resource for ML (Multiple Language Learner) support, providing language translation and aiding in language learning exercises. Its capabilities extend to administrative assistance, helping draft communications and manage routine clerical tasks, thereby streamlining day-to-day operations. ChatGPT has helped me create graphics and images for texts, professional emails, workflows, and a variety of administrative tasks. I do not put student work into it for grading as I know that it takes in all information to help it learn. I do not want to expose any student's PII, including their academic work.

Diffit, with its focus on differentiated instruction, allows teachers to tailor educational content efficiently. By customizing resources to suit various learning levels and styles, Diffit ensures all students access appropriate and engaging material. It simplifies the task of adapting curriculum resources, making it easier for teachers to address the unique needs of their students. I use drift to create different levels of the same text to help differentiate for my students. As an Integration Support Specialist, I work with around 700 students in two elementary buildings. I find Diffit to be invaluable in creating differentiated resources.

Magic School offers over 60 AI tools that aid in lesson planning, assessment writing, and IEP (Individualized Education Program) development. Its user-friendly interface and interoperability with learning management systems like Google Classroom and Microsoft Word make it a seamless addition to the classroom. The platform also includes comprehensive training resources, ensuring that teachers can effectively incorporate these AI tools into their teaching strategies. I use the free version to create rubrics, YouTube video-dependent questions, professional emails, songs, and lesson plans. I use it as a resource that creates the draft, and then I use my expertise as an educator to personalize the resources for my class.

The integration of AI tools like ChatGPT, Diffit, and Magic School represents a significant leap forward in educational technology. These platforms alleviate the burden of routine tasks and content creation and open new avenues for personalized and engaging learning experiences. As we continue to embrace these technologies, the role of AI in education becomes increasingly vital, offering teachers more time to focus on what truly matters - inspiring and nurturing their students.

Fractions Come Alive: Teaching Number Lines with Dash Robots

 Today’s third-grade math lesson reminded me why I love blending creativity with core curriculum. There’s something energizing about watching students light up when a challenging concept finally clicks–especially when robots are involved. Fractions can feel abstract for many learners. Number lines, equivalent fractions, and relationships between numerator and denominator aren’t always easy to visualize. So instead of beginning with worksheets or diagrams, we brought out Wonder Dash robots and turned the classroom floor into a living, breathing math lab. Who says math can’t be a hands-on adventure? In this joyful kindergarten lesson, students used Sphero Indi robots to practice non-standard measurement and had a BLAST doing it! Here’s how it worked: Students received task sheets with color-coded paths that told Indi what to do.
